Open lesson: Making a critical decision
Making a decision means setting aside many promising opportunities to focus on the one that seems most advantageous. Every collective decision is the result of a choice, and therefore involves risks.
When it is not possible to assess these risks with scientific precision, we must agree on “unacceptable losses.” In other words, we must first determine which trade-offs we are not willing to accept.
Once we have a better understanding of the less desirable consequences of the choice, we can focus on the positive aspects that every choice—even the least sustainable one—brings with it.
